As members of IAM District 142, we gather every Labor Day to commemorate the roots and achievements of the American labor movement.
Labor Day is more than a long weekend; it’s a symbol of the sacrifices and solidarity that have shaped the workplaces we know today. Decades ago, workers faced hazardous conditions, grueling hours, and minimal protection. It was through unwavering determination and the power of collective action by unions that we forged safer environments, fair schedules, living wages, and benefits that ensure dignity on and off the job.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of union members and leaders nationwide, we’ve transformed the nature of work in America:
- Improved working conditions that protect health and safety on the job
- Shifts and hours that support a better work-life balance
- Stronger wages and benefits that uplift families and communities
At District 142, our union’s commitment to organizing, member education, and solidarity, as demonstrated through the tireless work of our various committees, continues to strengthen and foster our growth.
Every Labor Day, we pause to remember how far we’ve come, and why we keep pushing forward. Today, we celebrate not just these victories, but the unity and courage that made them possible.
