District 142 Safety Alert: Possible Measles Exposure PHL Airport, November 9, 2025

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Please be advised that the Philadelphia International Airport (Terminals A & B) was the site of a possible measles exposure on Sunday, November 9, 2025, between 8:50 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

You are considered protected (immune) if you meet any of the following: Born before 1957, OR Have previously had measles, OR Have received two doses of the measles-containing vaccine (typically the MMR vaccine).

If you were in Terminals A or B during that time and have not been protected from measles, speak with your healthcare provider, and watch for symptoms through November 30, 2025, including: fever, runny nose, cough, red/puffy eyes, followed by a rash. If you develop symptoms, contact your doctor immediately and notify your local health department. Let them know you may have been exposed at PHL. If you are not showing symptoms and are unprotected, consider wearing a mask in indoor public spaces and around anyone unvaccinated until three weeks after the exposure.

The city’s health department believes there is no threat to the general public from this case. However, because measles is highly contagious—even through the air and lingering for up to two hours after an infected person leaves a space—appropriate vigilance is wise.

Please stay safe.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
Brian Szolodko
Senior Director of Safety
