Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The IAM has been notified that the National Mediation Board (NMB, the federal agency responsible for administering the Alaska Airlines–Hawaiian Airlines representation election (R-7672) is currently shut down due to a lapse in federal funding.
The U.S. Congress has not passed full federal appropriations for this period. Without an enacted budget or temporary funding measure, many federal agencies, including the NMB, are legally required to cease operations until funding is reinstated.
While the NMB is shut down, they will not respond to any emails or phone calls regarding this case.
The election schedule, including the voting period, the schedule for all submissions (e.g., status changes), and the tally date, remains unchanged for now. Once the NMB reopens, there may be adjustments to the schedule. They have informed us that they will notify us of any adjustments that are made.
We will provide updates as soon as the NMB resumes operations. We remain fully committed to ensuring every Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines member has the opportunity to participate in this important election.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
