Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Over the past several weeks, District 142 has had teams visiting stations speaking to members regarding the IAM/AMFA upcoming vote. One of the questions that continues to come up is about the retirement/medical and if it will stay or go away before the JCBA.
Article 23 of the current Hawaiian contract reads;
23.14 RETIREE BENEFIT COVERAGE
If a full-time employee retires between ages 55 and 60 with thirty (30) or more years of service (85 points), the Company will pay one-half (½) the cost of the medical insurance until the employee reaches age 65. Further, if a full-time employee retires between ages 60 and 64 with thirty (30) or more years of service (90 points), the Company will pay all of the cost of the medical insurance until he reaches age 65. This coverage will also be available for the employee’s spouse
We want to reassure you that the HA contract is valid until the new JCBA is in place, nothing changes until then. We need to make sure the IAM succeeds so we can fight for that same language in the JCBA, voting in AMFA will put that at a higher risk of being lost.If anyone has further questions or concerns, please reach out to your Shop Steward or your General Chair.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
