IAM/Alaska Airlines-Hawaiian Airlines Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement Negotiations Update

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Your District 142 Joint Alaska-Hawaiian Negotiating Committee continued negotiations on the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA) with the Company this week at District 142 Headquarters in Phoenix. Your Committee presented to the Company and discussed the following articles:

Overtime- The Union and the Company have reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on this article. The discussion focused on junior assignment and overall improvements to the article.

Sick Leave- The Union and the Company reached a TA on this article. Conversations focused on increasing protections.

Vacancies– The Union and the Company have reached a TA on this article. Much of the discussion focused on increasing the clarity of the article to make it more understandable for both the membership and management.

Hours of Service- The Union has received the Company’s first pass on this article and is preparing our counterproposal for the next session.

Part-Time- The Union has received the Company’s first pass on this article. Much of this article is directly tied to Hours of Service, and we are working on these articles in conjunction. It should be noted that in the current Alaska RSSA contract, the Part-Time language currently resides in the Hours of Service article, making it a necessity to work the article simultaneously for the other contracts where it exists as a separate article.

Home Agents- The Union gave the Company our first pass for Home Agents. This pass happened quite late in the week, so the Company has not yet had an opportunity to respond. We hope to continue conversations regarding this article during the next session.

As of the conclusion of this week’s session, we have reached tentative agreements on roughly 30% of the existing articles. However, not all articles are equal in complexity or importance, and we still have a significant amount of work to do. Overall, good progress was made again this week.

Your team will next meet at Local 2202 in SEA the week of November 17th to prepare for our next session with the Company, which will take place the week of December 1st in PHX at District 142 headquarters.

Thank you for your continuing support and solidarity as these important negotiations continue. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to a Shop Steward or negotiating committee member

Sincerely and fraternally,
