Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Your District 142 Joint Alaska-Hawaiian Negotiating team continued Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA) negotiations with the Company this week at the Alaska Airlines offices in Seattle. Your Committee presented to the Company and discussed the following articles:
Safety and Health– We’re effectively down to one item as a sticking point in this article. The Company has expressed its desire to hold off on further passes on this article until a later date, so both teams can refocus our efforts on Articles where we can more easily reach an agreement.
Grievance Procedure & System Board of Adjustments– The Company has responded to our passes of these articles. The articles are not yet to the point where our team is prepared to agree; we will draft a counterproposal at our next preparation session to present to the company in October.
Union Security/ Union Shop & Dues Check off– Your team passed our proposal to the Company late in the week. We hope to receive the Company’s response at our next session.
Leaves of Absence– After several passes back and forth this week, we were able to reach a Tentative Agreement (TA) on this article, with conversations focused on ensuring our contractual process complied with current state and federal laws, and expanding protections for both books.
Field Service– We have reached a Tentative Agreement on this article as well. The focus was on more clearly defining the current process for awarding field service, and adding language to ensure that current practices won’t be lost moving forward.
As a reminder, Tentative Agreements are exactly that — Tentative. Nothing in a TA goes into effect until the entire contract has been negotiated and ratified by you, the membership. Your team remains committed to bringing back the best possible Agreement for membership ratification. Please be aware that this is still the beginning of the process, and we have a long way to go, but progress was good this week.
Your Committee is scheduled to meet in Boston the Week of September 29th in preparation for our next negotiations with the Company the week of October 6th in Seattle.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your Negotiating Committee. Please ensure you receive accurate information by signing up for District 142 updates on the website at www.atd142.org and by speaking directly with your negotiating team. These are the only official sources of information. Thank you for your continued support and solidarity.
Sincerely and fraternally,
