Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Negotiations began this week with Allied for the DCA contract. We again met virtually under the control of the National Mediation Board (NMB) and Mediators Mike Tosi and Gerry McGuckin. The first day was comprised of tentatively agreeing to all of the sections of the CBA that will remain as they exist today (current book). Those articles are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 14, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 29 & 30. Later that evening, the Company sent their first proposals on changes they would like to see in a new CBA which consisted of Articles 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 15, 16, 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, 32, 33 and Schedules A & B.
Some of the Company’s proposals were changes that may be able to be completed with some effort and compromise from both parties. However, the larger majority of the Company’s economic proposals were concessionary and completely unacceptable to your Committee. When we asked for a justification, the Company’s hired representative (lawyer Frank Brennan at an hourly rate of who knows what), he simply said they didn’t need to justify anything to you, the members. When asked about the value in savings of their proposal, he basically again said he didn’t care what the value of the givebacks they would be asking you to take were. The meetings quickly fell apart and turned into a shouting match at which point the Company’s lawyer made that comment that he didn’t care about the Union, you the members or your contract. This Company under the leadership of Owner Bob Rose’s son, Ed Rose, has unfortunately become a relationship that is not centered on doing the right thing by its employees as you have experienced in the past.
We have additional dates set to meet again on March 1st and 28th & 29th with which we continue to aggressively represent your interests in trying to obtain a contract that is fair to everyone involved, and more importantly ratifiable by the membership. If you have any questions about the contents of this bulletin, please reach out to your negotiating committee member or your General Chairperson, James M. Samuel, at or (859) 653-4037, for additional help or information. Thank you for your patience and commitment. With best wishes we remain
Sincerely and fraternally,
