IAM – ALLIED AVIATION MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

An issue threatening your union representation has been moving its way through the different offices in the US government tasked with managing Labor Relations, specifically the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the National Mediation Board (NMB). As you can read in a separate link via the District Lodge 142 website, the NMB has issued a final opinion on the matter (look for the link that says “46 NMB No. 12 Jurisdictional Opinion”). In this ruling, the NMB said Allied Aviation should fall under the jurisdiction of the Railway Labor Act (RLA) instead of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).

Shortly after the NMB issued their decision on jurisdiction, Allied contacted the IAM and advised us that going forward, they planned to seek recognition under the RLA as we negotiate all future Collective Bargaining Agreements. This position by the Company could have resulted in a loss of union representation. In an effort to prevent such a catastrophic loss, the IAM entered into discussions with Allied to protect all of our members and their current contracts. These discussions centered on addressing ways to cover all groups going forward. As a product of those discussions occurring, Allied and the IAM have reached a recognition agreement that protects all current IAM represented members and locations. Current agreements will remain in place until replaced in the future as a part of the negotiations process between the Union and the Company. This development should be viewed as a positive change that, at a point in the future, all locations covered by the IAM will fall under a “Master Agreement”.

Occurring in the near future will be a meeting with Committee Members from each location (LGA, EWR, MCI, DCA, SAT and IAH) to discuss these changes and all details associated with the negotiations process. We will continue to release information and details concerning these developments, the negotiations process and meetings by bulletin which can always be found on the District Lodge 142 website at WWW.IAMDL142.ORG. General Chairperson James Samuel has been assigned to these properties and moving forward will be responsible for everything associated with Allied Aviation. He can be reached at or (859) 653-4037 to answer any questions you may. Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out him.

Sincerely and fraternally,
