IAM / BRITISH AIRWAYS NEGOTIATIONS  UPDATE

The Union and Company resumed meetings this week in NYC under the auspices of the NMB and Mediator Gerry McGuckin.  The first half of the week was with Engineering Manager Wayne Fraser and Kate Ling, International HR Manager. The Union received a comprehensive proposal consisting only of company proposals with no response to any of the Union’s prior proposals. While this was disappointing, there was some progress made overall that can be viewed in a positive light. The Union will be responding again at a future meeting to try to address all the remaining issues.

The remainder of this week was utilized for Customer Service and conducted with Doug Caines, VP, Kate Ling and Georgia LaBarge. The Union presented a comprehensive buyout proposal that would apply to certain groups covered under the CBA. This proposal consisted of varying amounts available both with, and without, and RRA feature as it exists currently for BA pre-65 retirees. The Company simply responded with their analysis of our proposal. Further discussions around this subject will continue next week when the parties resume negotiations on Monday afternoon.

Future dates that are confirmed include September 10-12, November 27-29 and December 3-4.  As mentioned previously, the Mediator controls the pace and frequencies of all negotiation activities.  Dates at the end of October consisting of 3 additional may be added based on the Mediators availability.
