IAM District 142 Responds to McGee Air Services Shift Bid Violations

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

During the March 3rd shift bid in SEA, McGee violated Section 5.2 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in regard to the timelines for bidding.  Despite being verbally advised in advance, McGee chose to proceed and violate the agreement. A grievance has been filed regarding that violation, and we are proceeding through the grievance process.

When that bid was awarded, an error was made pertaining to the Seniority list, resulting in many members not being awarded the correct shifts based on their Seniority.  Your Union Reps worked diligently and respectfully with Company leadership to develop a solution to remedy this mistake and follow the contract that you voted to ratify in 2025.

On March 12th, McGee advised your General Chairs that they had decided to proceed with a shift-bid timeline that is not in compliance with the agreement.  They did this despite us making it clear to them that this course of action would violate our agreement, full stop.  McGee alone made the decision to violate your contractual rights; we intend to fully defend those rights.

The Union has demanded that the Company immediately cease and desist from this violation and conduct the bid in accordance with the contractual timelines.  We have made it clear that both the contractual language in Section 5.2 and the intent that was explicitly discussed at the bargaining table support the Union’s position.

Because of this, the Union will be pursuing all available remedies under the contract.  We want to be clear: the Union will fight this violation to the end to protect the agreement that we collectively negotiated.

As this process moves forward, it is important for you to understand that contract enforcement takes time. While the Union challenges this action through the proper channels, members are expected to follow the Company’s directions regarding reporting to work.

Your Union leadership is committed to defending the integrity of our agreement and the rights it guarantees to all members. We will continue to provide updates as this issue progresses.

Sincerely and fraternally,
