Dear Sisters and Brothers:
IAM District 142, which represents workers at Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, will take all necessary steps to protect the rights of its members at both carriers during and after the announced upcoming acquisition. An announcement was made today that an agreement has been reached for Alaska Airlines to acquire Hawaiian Airlines.
District 142 represents clerical, passenger services, ramp, and stores employees at Alaska Airlines, and aircraft maintenance employees at Hawaiian Airlines.
“As the largest and most powerful air transport union, the IAM knows better than anyone how to protect our membership during industry changes,” said IAM District 142 President and Directing General Chair John M. Coveny Jr. “We will be engaged in every conversation as this agreement comes into focus and protect and defend the interests of our Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines members at every turn.”
“The IAM is engaged in this process, and we want to ensure all of our members that their union is making sure that their collective bargaining agreements, and their rights, are being protected,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “We know from experience that mergers and acquisitions in the airline industry take time and require patience. Please be assured that the IAM has your back and will keep our Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines membership updated throughout this process.”
All of the resources at District 142 will be available over the coming weeks. District 142 General Chairs will be available to take your questions and District 142 EAP is available for anyone who needs assistance.
Thank you for your steadfast commitment, patience, and especially your solidarity as this process moves forward.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
