Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Your IAM District 142 Negotiations Committee met with the Company in Los Angeles the week of July 29th. at the Qantas Airways hangar. This marked the opening of the negotiation process under Section Six of the Railway Labor Act (RLA) and was the first step in the RLA process, a direct discussion between company management and the Union.
The Union introduced nine preliminary proposals, and the Company introduced three preliminary proposals. Six proposals have been tentatively agreed to by both Union and Company. Those articles will become part of the collective bargaining agreement and consist of:
- Preamble
- Purpose of the agreement
- Status of agreement
- Savings clause
- Recognition
- Non-discrimination
We are working diligently towards achieving a first contract that will benefit all IAM members at Qantas. Your negotiating team appreciates the company’s cooperation and efforts in this first bargaining session.
Our next session will be the week of August 19th at IAM District 142 headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. Your committee appreciates your support and solidarity during this negotiation process, and we will continue to update you after every session.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr. President/Directing General Chair IAM District 142 | Mark Strength General Chair IAM District 142 | |
