IAM/QANTAS AIRWAYS LAX NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Your IAM District 142 Negotiating Committee met with Qantas management in Los Angeles on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th for the twelfth round of direct negotiations. Unfortunately, we must report that only a small amount of progress was made during this session.

No Tentative Agreements (TAs) were reached. Discussions, particularly regarding Article 9 – Filling of Vacancies, were intense. The Committee firmly reiterated that protecting seniority remains one of the Union’s highest priorities. We made it clear to the Company that ongoing seniority violations, as reported by our members, are a driving force behind our presence at the bargaining table.

Despite the Company’s slow return of specific pending articles, we are moving closer to entering economic discussions. Your Committee remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for a fair and equitable agreement that reflects the rights, priorities, and contributions of our membership.

Articles Discussed This Session:

  • Travel on Duty – Training – Field Service Away from Base
  • Seniority
  • Filling of Vacancies
  • System Board of Adjustment / Arbitration

We remain fully committed to securing our first collective bargaining agreement, one that protects our work, advances our interests, and delivers meaningful benefits to all of our Sisters and Brothers.

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for the week of June 30th in Los Angeles, CA, at the Qantas Hangar. Thank you for your continued support, solidarity, and engagement during this important time.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
