Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Last week, your IAM District 142 Negotiating Committee met with Qantas management at the Qantas Hangar in Los Angeles for the 23rd round of negotiations. With each session, we move closer to securing the strong first contract our membership has earned.
During this round, the Committee concentrated on two articles that directly affect your time, your income, and your ability to balance work and life, and we are proud to report that Tentative Agreements have been reached on both articles:
- Article 7 – Overtime
- Article 10 – Leaves of Absence
Overtime protections determine how your extra work is valued and compensated. Leave provisions protect your ability to care for family, address personal matters, and take earned time away from work without uncertainty. Securing enforceable language in these areas is a meaningful step forward and reflects the strength and unity behind this Committee at the table.
Important work remains. The following articles are still open and will be the focus of upcoming bargaining sessions:
- Wage Rules
- Rates of Pay
- Benefits
- Travel on Duty/Training/Field Service/Remote Location Support
- Union Security/Dues Check Off
These are among the most consequential elements of your contract. They define long‑term security, compensation, and the overall structure of your working conditions. Your committee remains fully committed to achieving fair and competitive terms that recognize your professionalism, skill, and the essential role you play in Qantas operations.
Negotiations will resume on March 17 in Los Angeles. We return to the table prepared, focused, and determined to continue building the agreement you deserve. Your solidarity drives this process. We will continue to keep you informed as progress continues.
Sincerely and fraternally,
