IAM/QANTAS AIRWAYS LAX NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your loved ones!

Your District 142 Negotiating Committee recently met with Qantas Airways management in Phoenix, Arizona. This was our eighth round of direct negotiations with the Company. During these productive talks, we reached three Tentative Agreements and made substantial progress on several key articles:

Articles Discussed:

  • Classification and Work Requirements / Qualifications
  • Hours of Service
  • Filling of Vacancies
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Management Rights
  • Scope of the Agreement

Tentative Agreements Reached:

  • Hours of Service
  • Classification and Work Requirements / Qualifications
  • Artificial Intelligence

Both the Union and the Company addressed concerns regarding these Articles, and they will be incorporated into the forthcoming collective bargaining agreement.

We remain fully committed to securing our first contract that will benefit all of our Brothers and Sisters. The Negotiating Committee also appreciates Qantas management’s cooperation and constructive efforts during this session. We also want to thank District 142 General Chair Jeff James for his invaluable support during this session.

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for the week of March 5th at the Qantas Hangar in Los Angeles, CA. We remain optimistic that we will reach a collective bargaining agreement in the near future. Thank you for your continued support and solidarity throughout this critical negotiation process.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
