IAM RESPONDS TO AMFA’S SINGLE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM APPLICATION AND CARRIER’S INITIAL POSITION STATEMENT AT ALASKA AIRLINES/HAWAIIAN AIRLINES

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

The IAM has reviewed the information submitted by AMFA on May 12 in their application for a single transportation system determination by the National Mediation Board (NMB) for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. The IAM disagreed with the number of Mechanic and Related Employees represented by the IAM that was submitted to the NMB.

On June 10, the Carrier responded to the filing and did not dispute the application, but the number of IAM-represented employees at Hawaiian Airlines, which they submitted to the NMB, agreed with our figures. The IAM has requested that the Board rely on those employee counts.

Since the merger agreement between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines was implemented on December 2, 2023, the NMB has issued single transportation determinations for Flight Attendants, Pilots, Clerical, Office, Stores, Fleet, and Passenger Service Employees.

The Carrier agrees that AMFA is the certified bargaining representative for Mechanic and Related Employees at Alaska Airlines, and the IAM is the certified bargaining representative for the same class or craft at Hawaiian Airlines.

The IAM agrees with the Carrier that the two airlines are now operating as a single transportation system for the Mechanic and Related craft of this class and has petitioned the Board to issue a finding to that effect.

A copy of the official letter from the IAM to the NMB is linked below.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
