MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Teresa Beynon

A 31-year member of the IAM, Teresa works for Southwest Airlines in Phoenix, AZ, where she is part of Local 2559 and serves as a Shop Steward. In addition to her steward responsibilities, Teresa has worked diligently behind the scenes at District 142 as an election teller.

 “I hadn’t had much prior experience with the union, but I was called into a meeting with management where I met my Union Steward Carrie Lessley,” said Teresa when asked what inspired her to get involved with the union. “During the meeting, I had no issues speaking up for myself and for others involved. Afterward, Carrie approached me and asked if I’d be interested in becoming a Union Steward. That moment helped me realize that I had a natural ability to advocate for others, and it marked the beginning of my deeper involvement with union work.”

Teresa believes that being part of her union means standing together in solidarity, not just as coworkers but as a family committed to supporting each other both on and off the job.

“Whether it’s advocating for fair treatment, ensuring safe working conditions, or simply lending a hand when someone needs support, we are here to help each other.”

On the job, she enjoys the opportunity to help others – whether it’s assisting customers or supporting peers, and being able to make a positive impact in someone’s day, no matter how big or small.

“Through my union work, I aim to be a voice for those who don’t feel empowered to speak up for themselves. Everyone deserves to be heard, and I want to help make sure that no one stands alone when it comes to fairness, respect, and dignity in the workplace,” emphasized Teresa.

When she’s not at work, Teresa likes spending time with her family, reading, and caring for her house plants. She enjoys traveling to visit family in Utah and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.
