NMB Issues Authorization of Election for Alaska–Hawaiian Mechanics and Related Employees

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

The National Mediation Board (NMB) has now officially determined that a representation dispute exists in Case R-7669 involving the Mechanics and Related Employees of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, with AMFA currently representing those employees at Alaska, and the IAM currently representing those employees at Hawaiian.

The NMB has authorized a mail-ballot election, with the tally to be held in Washington, D.C.

The NMB will issue additional details on the election schedule and voting procedures soon.

In accordance with Section 12.1 of the NMB Representation Manual, the Carriers are now required to provide alphabetized address labels for all potential eligible voters—along with related sequence numbers and information about any voters on military leave—within five calendar days.

This action formally initiates the election process for representation of the Mechanics and Related Employees at Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

The delay caused by AMFA contesting the eligibility of Cleaners and Line Service members still needs to be resolved. District 142 will continue to update you as this process moves forward.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
