Earlier this month, I wrote to the membership, asking everyone to reach out to their elected officials for their support of the extension of the Payroll Support Program (PSP). Many of our members have benefited from this program, but this program will end, without the extension, September 30th. This program is what has kept many of our members employed, with their income and job security, during the unprecedented times we are living in with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, our legislators are working on an extension of this program, to allow the airlines more time to have traffic rebound. As many of you are aware, most of our carriers are issuing WARN notices. Thousands of our members are facing possible loss of employment. Some carriers are closing their doors! One thing that can help many of our members is the extension. Some experts are even saying there may be other carriers which may go out of business without additional help.
The House has passed the extension of the PSP, it is now in the hands of the Senate. We need every member to contact their Senators and ask for their support in getting this bill passed. We have the support of the Democrats in the Senate, but we need several Republicans to join to get this bill passed. Click here for the list of the Senators in our key hub locations. Congress is getting ready to leave Washington for their summer break. This needs to be passed before they leave. Have your families and friends call – this affects entire communities.
