Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Recently, I began discussions with Southwest Airlines to address early opening of contract talks for our Customer Representatives, Customer Service Agents, and Source of Support Representatives. While the contract is not amendable until December 3, 2018, we believe that, by beginning talks early, we improve our chances of achieving an agreement very close to the amendable date of the current agreement. I would like to report that the company shared our desire to start talks early and have agreed to begin negotiations in the month of May 2018.
Because of this early opener, we will soon call for contract proposals. Shortly after the proposals are received, we will then conduct a survey of the membership, so we have a true feeling of what is important to our members. We will be holding contract negotiation prep class for our negotiating team near the end of April to get our team prepared for talks.
