Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The TWU/IAM Association is pleased to announce that we have reached a settlement prior to arbitration with American Airlines for Article 6 K (immediate return to service) of the M&R JCBA. The Association and the company have agreed to the following settlement:
- For domestic Aircraft Out of Service (AOS) events, the company can utilize a vendor to accomplish repairs and return the aircraft to service only if such repairs and return to service can be accomplished within eight (8) hours.
- If a vendor is unable to complete repairs in 8 hours, inclusive of shipping of parts, tooling, or other circumstances, it will be deemed a Field Trip bypass for Association members.
- Provisions will be in place for domestic Field Trips to be called for any repair that will realistically take more than 8 hours to accomplish. It is anticipated that this language will generate significantly more Field Trips each year.
- Field Trips will continue to be called in the same manner since the date of ratification of the JCBA for Article 19.
- A monthly meeting with MOC will be established to track and confirm compliance with the settlement agreement and discuss any Field Trip bypasses that may have occurred during the previous month.
- Grievance remedy: Each Aircraft Maintenance Technician (“AMT”) identified as a line AMT, Crew Chief, Tech Crew Chief, or QC Inspector on the seniority list on the date of this settlement will receive two (2) hours of compensatory/paid time off in the employee’s compensatory time bank. We are working with the company to establish when and how this will be distributed.
The effective date to implement the changes in this Settlement Agreement has been established as January 15, 2024.
The Association committee made up of the leadership from the TWU and the IAM, came together to work through this process to achieve the best settlement for our membership. This sends a clear message to the company that the Association is strong, united, and ready to work together for the benefit of the membership. Thank you for your patience and solidarity.
