Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The scenes of devastation and desperation from the wildfires in Southern California are hard to imagine. The toll on human lives, homes, businesses, and wildlife will be felt for years. As we watch these scenes unfold on our televisions and devices, our thoughts go out to our members dealing with this tragedy.
If these fires have impacted you or a family member, getting yourself and your family to safety is the most important thing. Once you are safe, state and federal agencies are available to assist, as well as local and national charities that stand by to help victims in any way possible.
Your union is also ready to help our members. IAM Disaster Relief and District 142 EAP have resources to assist members in Southern California. You can access the Disaster Relief Guides by going to https://www.goiam.org/disaster-relief-guides/ and clicking on the state of California. District 142 EAP Director Paul Shultz is available at or his 24-hour confidential voicemail: (704) 907-3563.
You can also find assistance in your area using the United Way’s 211 service. Dial 2-1-1 (toll-free) or visit https://www.211ca.org.
Please continue to follow your local news outlets for continually updated information on shelters and other resources that are available to residents. If you find yourself in a dire situation, always follow the instructions of first responders trying to get you out of harm’s way and to safety. If you need assistance performing your job functions, please get in touch with your District 142 General Chair.
We will continue to monitor this situation and assist however we are able.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
