IAM PETITIONS NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD FOR SINGLE CARRIER STATUS FOR ALASKA AIRLINES AND HAWAIIAN AIRLINES CLERICAL, OFFICE, PASSENGER SERVICES, RAMP, AND STORES GROUPS

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

We are pleased to announce that the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has petitioned the National Mediation Board (NMB) to declare that post-merger, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are now operating as a single transportation system for all employees in the Clerical, Office, Passenger Services, Fleet (Ramp), and Stores Groups.

IAM members impacted by this petition comprise Alaska Airlines employees under the Clerical, Office, and Passenger Service “Green Book” contract, Alaska Airlines employees covered by the Ramp and Stores “Blue Book” contract, and Hawaiian Airlines employees under the Clerical, Office, Stores, Fleet, and Passenger Services “Red Book” contract.

This week’s filing is a crucial step before the NMB can certify the IAM as the exclusive bargaining unit for the combined groups. There is currently no timeframe for the NMB to act on today’s petition.

IAM District 142 President/Directing General Chair John M. Coveny, Jr. issued this statement after the filing:

“Today’s filing is the next step in achieving Joint Collective Bargaining Agreements for these work groups under the new combined Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines. Even though all groups affected by today’s filing are already IAM members, our ultimate goal is to get them together under one roof to better represent and serve them and ensure that they work under industry-leading contracts as we move forward.”

The pre-merger groups will continue to operate under their existing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) until Joint Collective Bargaining Agreements (JCBA) are negotiated.

As we progress through the next steps, we will keep you informed with regular updates so that you are always aware of our status in the process. Your ongoing support and solidarity are greatly appreciated and are needed now more than ever.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
