Aviation Maintenance Technician Day

Post on all IAM Bulletin Boards

Sisters and Brothers,

Every May 24th, we celebrate Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day. The IAM and District 142 are proud of our many skilled AMT’s who keep the aircraft we fly safe and secure around the clock. On this day we also honor the legacy of Charles E. Taylor, the “Father of Aircraft Maintenance.”

Charles E. Taylor was born on May 24th, 1868, in Illinois. Throughout his life he was an inventor, a machinist, and a mechanic. While living in Dayton, OH, Taylor was hired by Orville and Wilbur Wright to build the engine that would be used in their now famous Wright Flyer, the first heavier-than-air machine to achieve powered flight. On that day the aviation age was born!

The United States House of Representatives introduced a resolution in 2007 to establish National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day on May 24th, honoring the birthdate of Charles E. Taylor. The resolution passed in 2008 and National AMT Day was officially recognized as a day to honor the contributions of Aviation Maintenance Technicians everywhere.

So today we say Thank You to our IAM members who are AMT’s. We appreciate your dedication and skill as you keep us safe in the air every day. We hope you enjoy your day.
