Honoring the Professionals Who Keep Aviation Moving

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

This Sunday, we proudly recognize National Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day, a day dedicated to honoring the skilled professionals who keep the world flying safely. The observance is held each year on May 24th in recognition of Charles Taylor’s birthday, the first aircraft mechanic. Taylor worked alongside Orville and Wilbur Wright and was responsible for designing and building the engine that powered the Wright brothers’ historic first flight in 1903. His innovation, dedication, and mechanical expertise helped launch the modern aviation industry and established the foundation for generations of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians to follow.

Today, proud members of IAM District 142 continue that tradition of excellence every single day. Whether working on the line, in heavy maintenance facilities, in component shops, or behind the scenes supporting operations, our AMTs shoulder enormous responsibility. Their professionalism, training, and commitment to safety ensure that aircraft remain airworthy and reliable while helping transport millions of passengers and countless tons of cargo safely around the globe.

The work performed by AMTs often happens away from the spotlight, but its importance cannot be overstated. Every inspection completed, every repair performed, and every safety procedure followed reflects the skill and dedication of aviation professionals who take pride in doing the job right. Through long hours, changing schedules, challenging conditions, and constant technological advancements, our members continue to demonstrate the highest standards of craftsmanship and professionalism.

On this National AMT Day, IAM District 142 proudly recognizes and thanks all Aircraft Maintenance Technicians for the incredible work they do to keep the aviation industry moving safely and efficiently. We see your dedication. We appreciate your professionalism. And we thank you for the essential role you play each and every day in protecting the flying public and supporting the global economy.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
