IAM / BRITISH AIRWAYS NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

I have been contacted by many, many people in the past few days from throughout the US concerning some false and inaccurate information being circulated by irresponsible people in management.  Here is what I am able to tell you.

As everyone is aware, talks were again held at the NMB offices in Washington, DC last week on October 2 and 3. Both days were dedicated solely to the ongoing discussions around successfully concluding the Engineering CBA. Prior to our meeting, Engineering management held a meeting in the IAD area with Engineering managers from across the US. As was told to me second-hand, some unequivocal statements were made as it relates to the Engineering talks with the Union. Upon returning to their stations, some of those Managers for some reason felt the need to disseminate that information which in turn trickled into the Customer Service groups. This information has given many of you in Customer Service a very misleading and patently false impression. What I will tell you is that significant progress was made in closing the remaining issues successfully and hopefully we can finalize everything in the near future and move on to getting these deals out for ratification. Until then, our goals remain the same. Achieving CBA’s for both groups that protect your jobs and your benefits. Nothing less.

As an important reminder, once negotiations for both CBA’s are completed and approved by the Grand Lodge and District 142, it will be considered a tentative agreement and submitted to the membership for ratification. If you have any questions, please give me a call at (859) 653-4037 or email me at or contact one of your negotiating committee members.

With best wishes, I remain

Sincerely and fraternally,

James M. Samuel
GENERAL CHAIR
