Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Hawaiian Airlines first established Allocator positions in 2020 at the Honolulu and Maui stations. These allocator positions were deemed Non-Union positions by the Company and staffed with non-IAM members. The IAM disagreed, believing the work of the allocator was IAM covered work and initiated a grievance that progressed through the process, eventually ending at the final step of Arbitration. After a lengthy arbitration hearing, at the suggestion of the Arbitrator, he felt if both sides attempted to reach a mutual agreement rather than him issue a ruling would better serve the parties. Both agreed to mediation and held several sessions, but soon after, the announcement of the pending Merger was made, and it was put on hold. Very recently those talks resumed, and a resolution has been reached.
The Allocator positions will be fully staffed with IAM members no later than September 30, 2025, which will allow for ample time to post, award, and train for the duties associated with that position. These positions will be Chief positions. It was also agreed that because these positions may take on more duties as a Chief than usual that the Chief over-ride pay would increase to $2.25 from the current $1.75, and that would apply to all Chiefs receiving an over-ride premium system wide, not just the ones performing the new role as an allocator as eventually, Chiefs will have more over-sight of their operation than they do today. This settlement would also create additional Chief positions immediately. We feel this settlement was in the best interest of our members, creating additional growth in premium positions and securing IAM jobs as this merger progresses
Sincerely and fraternally,
