Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Earlier this week Alaska Airlines announced their intention to acquire Hawaiian Airlines. We understand that this news was not expected and comes as a surprise to most of you. You will understandably have a lot of questions as to how this will affect your job and seniority going forward.
Airline mergers are complicated and can take many months, if not years, to complete. As of today, the only thing that is official is that Alaska Airlines intends to acquire Hawaiian Airlines. Several important approvals need to happen before any real changes can occur. Until all of the government and FAA approvals are completed, and Alaska obtains a single operating certificate from the FAA, we would expect everything to remain status quo for our members at both airlines.
Your IAM District 142 Leadership is working closely together with leadership from the IAM Air Transport Territory to ensure everyone’s jobs and Collective Bargaining Agreements are protected at all times as this process moves forward. Seniority integration and a Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement for our members at the combined airline will be of utmost importance.
Please be wary of getting any merger-related news from untrusted outside sources. Your union will keep you updated at all times and should be your primary source of information going forward.
