Dear Sisters and Brothers:
IAM District 142 is proud to announce the appointment of Boris Kochanoff as a General Chair, effective December 1, 2025. Brother Kochanoff brings more than a decade of dedicated union service, grievance experience, and a long-standing commitment to the members of District 142 at American Airlines.
Brother Kochanoff has served on the PHX Grievance Committee for 11 consecutive years, including the last three years as Chairman. With this appointment, he will be stepping down from the Grievance Committee to dedicate himself to his new role as General Chair.
Boris’s union involvement spans nearly 15 years and includes a wide range of elected and appointed positions. First appointed as an IAM Shop Steward in 2010, he went on to win election to the PHX Grievance Committee in 2014 and was re-elected through 2025. Over the years, he has served as a delegate to multiple District 142 and International Conventions, participated in Local 2559 Budget and Audit Committees, and held both Vice President and President positions within the Local. His experience also includes service as an Election Teller for District 142 and representing our members on the Negotiations Committee during the recent negotiations between the TWU-IAM Association and American Airlines.
Boris has worked as an aircraft mechanic since 1997. Beginning his career with America West Airlines, he continued through the mergers into US Airways and ultimately American Airlines. Based in Phoenix for his entire career, he has lived in Arizona for 29 years and currently resides in Scottsdale. Boris enjoys traveling with family and friends, spending time outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking, and off-roading.
Please join us in congratulating Brother Kochanoff on his appointment and in welcoming him to his new role. His extensive experience, dedication to our membership, and passion for service will continue to strengthen District 142 for years to come.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
President/Directing General Chair
