IAM District 142 is proud to announce the appointment of Ignacio Salim as Vice President At-Large.
Brother Salim first joined British Airways at JFK in July of 1985 and, after completing his probationary period, became a proud member of IAM Local 1894 in September of that same year. Over four decades of dedicated service, he has built a career grounded in commitment, solidarity, and a deep belief in the importance of unions to both individuals and the broader society.
In early 1988, Ignacio began his union leadership journey as a Shop Steward in LAX, bringing his New York experience to the West Coast and continuing to learn from the members he represented. His leadership expanded over the years, and in 2017, he became Chief Steward in New York. In February 2018, he was appointed Chairperson for the British Airways/IAM group, a role he continues to serve in today.
Brother Salim shared that becoming a member of the IAM has been a wonderful experience and an honor, noting the vital role unions play in protecting and elevating working people everywhere. He looks forward to working closely with his IAM brothers and sisters in this new role and to further expanding his horizons alongside them.
Ignacio resides in Long Island, New York, and enjoys working on cars, riding his Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, and traveling.
