Dear Sisters and Brothers:
IAM District 142 stands in unwavering solidarity with our Sisters and Brothers of IAM District 141 at Spirit Airlines following the airline’s sudden shutdown on May 2, 2026.
This abrupt decision has left thousands of aviation professionals facing uncertainty about their jobs and families, made worse by the lack of notice. Please know you are not alone.
As union members, we are family across carriers and districts. District 142 stands shoulder to shoulder with District 141 and is ready to help however we can, by sharing resources, offering guidance, and supporting one another.
Many of us have faced shutdowns, bankruptcies, mergers, and upheavals before. In every case, our Union’s strength has helped members move forward with representation, opportunity, and dignity, and that same solidarity will matter now more than ever.
We commend District 141’s immediate response to protect members’ rights, mobilizing legal and contractual support, advocating for WARN Act protections, assisting with unemployment benefits, and connecting members to resources such as the IAM Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
To our Sisters and Brothers at Spirit Airlines: District 142 stands with you, today and in the days ahead. We will keep lifting each other up, because that’s what a union family does.
Sincerely and fraternally,
District 142 Executive Board
