IAM/EAP Response to Dallas/Love Field Active Shooter Incident

POST ON ALL IAM BULLETIN BOARDS

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

On Monday, July 25, 2022, there was an active shooter incident at Love Field, Dallas, Texas, in the terminal area near the Southwest ticket counters. The assailant was apprehended and taken into custody by local law enforcement inside the airport.

District Lodge 142 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) quickly deployed Southwest Customer Representative Irma Zamora Bird, an EAP/Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) member from Houston, to provide support for our Southwest members at Love Field, as well as any management personnel who may have been affected by the incident. Ms. Bird was on-site Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 27. Southwest Customer Representative David Jackson, an EAP/CIRT team member from Atlanta, arrived at Love Field Thursday evening, July 28 and will be on-site through Sunday, July 31.

Both of our EAP/CIRT team members were trained in Crisis Response by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), in addition to training in Psychological First Aid (PFA), and they each received EAP training at the IAMAW’s William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center.

If you have any questions, concerns or would like to know more about our Employee Assistance Program, please contact District 142 EAP Chair Paul Shultz at 704-907-3563 (call or text), or email at  or .

With best wishes, we remain

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
