After the analysis of the proposals returned by the membership occurred during the week of January 8, this past week ended 9 days of direct meetings with the Company this year under the auspices of the National Mediation Board, and Mediator Eva Durham, who has permanently replaced Mediator Jack Kane.
The response to the second call-for-proposals made it evident of the membership’s intentions on what the shortcomings were in the first TA. Your negotiating committee took that message to the table to address those issues. As of this past week, minor progress was made, but nothing of major significance to report at this time. There remains a wide gap between the memberships’ needs and the Company’s willingness to put more money on the table. If the Company continues to resist the needs of the membership at the negotiating table in future sessions, then preparations for self-help must begin away from the table and your participation in those activities will solidify the message you have sent. At this time, one additional week with the Mediator has been scheduled and will take place during the week of March 5.
If you have questions, please contact myself, one of your negotiating committee members or a Shop Steward. Your patience and solidarity have been and will continue to be essential in reaching an Agreement that you deserve.
With best wishes we remain
Sincerely and fraternally,
James M. Samuel
