Dear Sisters and Brothers:
As a follow-up to our Hurricane Beryl bulletin from July 10th concerning IAM Disaster Relief and our IAM EAP resources available to our members, District 142 has received many calls from our members with requests for information about the above and to provide updates on what is affecting them.
This past Friday, July 12th, District 142 received a report that Southwest Airlines management had stated that any time over the contractually required two (2) days would be treated as attendance issues while being assessed points under the Southwest Attendance Control Policy. Since that became known, we have been communicating with the Company throughout the weekend about the lack of foresight with their approach. Those discussions are continuing into this week as we await their response.
We will continue monitoring this situation and hope Southwest management changes its approach. If not, District Lodge 142 stands ready to protect our members’ interests with all possible methods. Please continue to contact our office with your questions and requests for assistance.
If you or a loved one have been affected by Hurricane Beryl and need assistance, please contact District 142 EAP Director Paul Shultz: 24-Hour Confidential Voicemail: (704) 907-3563, or EAP rep Mack McKinney in SAT: (210) 684-1947, .
Sincerely and fraternally,
