POST ON ALL IAM BULLETIN BOARDS
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Every year on Labor Day we pause to consider the enormous contributions working people make to our nation and society, and the increasingly important role unions play in the lives of all working people.
A recent Gallup Poll from August of 2022 places U.S. approval of labor unions at its highest point since 1965. Seventy-one percent of Americans now approve of labor unions, up from sixty-four percent before the pandemic. With the recent surge in union victories around the country at major corporations like Starbucks and Amazon, nearly one in six Americans now live in a union household.
These victories are not going unnoticed by working Americans. Unions improve the lives of their members, both on and off the job, through safer workplaces, justice on the job, livable wages, a voice at the negotiating table, and the continuing fight for equality and human rights.
As you enjoy the holiday weekend with family and friends, take a moment to reflect on the brave women and men who decades ago first stood up for workers’ rights, often risking life and limb in the process, and setting the stage for the benefits we enjoy today.
With best wishes, we remain
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
