Winter Storm Fern Support & Resources

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Winter Storm Fern has moved across much of the United States with widespread snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures. This powerful storm has disrupted travel, caused structural damage, and led to significant power outages affecting hundreds of thousands of households and businesses.

At the peak of the storm, more than 1 million customers nationwide experienced power loss due to snow, ice, and downed lines. Heavy snowfall, sleet, freezing rain, and ice accumulation have made travel dangerous across large areas of the South, Midwest, and Northeast, with flights canceled and road conditions treacherous.

In times like these, our union family matters more than ever. Many of our members and their families may be dealing with storm-related impacts, including extended power outages, hazardous travel conditions, property damage, or cold-related hardships.

If you or your immediate family have been impacted and need assistance, please reach out to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Committee. Support is available and confidential. You can contact EAP Director Paul Shultz at his 24-Hour Confidential Voicemail at (704) 907-3563, or by email at pshultz@iamdl142.org

We also want to thank all of our members who have checked in on one another and offered assistance where possible, whether it’s helping clear driveways, checking on neighbors, or sharing food and supplies. Your solidarity exemplifies what it means to be part of District 142.

Please stay safe, warm, and connected. If conditions in your area remain challenging, follow local guidance and reach out for help if needed.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
