District 142 Encourages Participation in FAA Ramp Worker Safety Questionnaire

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of airport ramp worker safety as directed by Section 353 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. As part of this effort, the FAA has launched a national Ramp Worker Safety Questionnaire and is seeking input from the aviation professionals who work in and around aircraft every day.

For IAM District 142 members employed in ramp service operations, this is an important opportunity to help shape the future of ramp safety. The FAA is specifically seeking feedback on hazards associated with aircraft ingestion areas and jet blast zones, current safety training, operational guidance, and technologies designed to prevent accidents and injuries on the ramp.

No one understands the challenges and risks of ramp operations better than the workers who perform these duties daily. Your firsthand knowledge, experience, and observations can help identify real-world hazards, improve safety practices, and contribute to recommendations that may enhance protections for airport workers across the industry.

The FAA intends to use the information gathered through this questionnaire to evaluate existing safety measures, identify contributing risk factors, and develop findings and best practices to reduce accidents and incidents on airport ramps nationwide.

District 142 encourages all members working in ramp operations to take a few moments to complete the questionnaire linked below and share their experiences. Participation from frontline workers is essential to ensuring that the voices of those who know these environments best are heard.

The questionnaire will remain open through July 3, 2026.

Thank you for your continued commitment to safety and professionalism. By participating, you can help make airport ramps safer for all aviation workers.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
