Our thoughts are with our Sisters and Brothers, their families, and all communities affected by the Reno-area wildfires. The Hawk Fire, burning northwest of Reno in Washoe County near the Peavine Peak/Somersett area, has prompted a major emergency response involving local, state, and federal agencies. Members in the area should continue to follow evacuation instructions from first responders and verify current conditions before traveling.
The situation remains fluid, and evacuation zones, road closures, power outages, shelter locations, and donation needs may change quickly. For the most current official information, members and families should check local news and government sites. A few that can help include:

- Anyone in immediate danger should call 911; for non-emergency Washoe County information and guidance on donation needs, officials have directed the public to call 311.
Support is also available through national, regional, and local relief organizations. The American Red Cross has been supporting Hawk Fire evacuees, including shelter operations in Reno, and can be reached at redcross.org or 1-800-RED CROSS. Local reporting has also identified community assistance efforts involving the Red Cross of Northern Nevada, the Salvation Army, community partners, and public agencies.
District 142 members and their families who have been affected by these wildfires, or who are worried about loved ones in the impacted area, are reminded that the District 142 Employee Assistance Program is here for you. EAP is confidential and available to help members and families connect with support, talk through the stress of evacuation or loss, and identify resources for recovery, grief, financial strain, housing disruption, or other personal concerns.
