Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Today Southwest Airlines announced that it would be closing the following stations: Syracuse (SYR), Houston (IAH), Bellingham (BLI), and Cozumel (CZM) and reducing flights into Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
The Company notified District 142 last night, at which time we notified the General Chair for each of those locations. The General Chairs will be reaching out to the Stewards at those locations and will be available to answer any questions the members may have.
According to the letter from Southwest, flying will cease on August 5, 2024, at the locations noted above, and reductions in Fort Lauderdale will take place on August 6, 2024. The company will provide a list of available stations that our members can bid to in the near future.
District 142 will monitor this situation closely to ensure that the company follows the language to protect our membership per our Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Leadership at District 142, including your General Chairs, are available to answer any questions you may have and to assist you and your family to help you navigate this situation. We will continue to monitor this development and inform you of any changes so you can plan accordingly.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John M. Coveny, Jr.
