Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The parties reconvened for 3 days of negotiations this week in Phoenix, AZ at the District 142 offices. Joining both parties were Nathan Safe, QF Industrial Relations Manager, and Jeff Montebello, Head of Line Maintenance, both from Sydney.
Progress was again made this week with an Agreement in Principle being reached for Article 36 – Benefits. Following the conclusion of that Article, your IAM Union negotiating committee put forth a comprehensive proposal that covered all remaining open items including wage and wage rules, union security, field service and RLS, wages and premiums, and effective date and duration. This is a step usually taken in most negotiations when the remaining items are down to a few, and economics are one of the primary topics.
Negotiations will resume next in LAX during the week of July 13 at the Qantas hangar. We will be prepared to receive a comprehensive proposal back from the Company and will endeavor to conclude these negotiations without any undue delays.
Your District Representatives are currently in the beginning stages of planning an event for the QF membership to be held in person near the airport. If you have any ideas of something that you would like to do, please let a committee member know. We will also be scheduling a second webinar in the near future. Please keep an eye out for announcements concerning these events.
