The recent outbreak of severe weather across the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana, including tornadoes, destructive winds, heavy rain, flooding, downed trees and power lines, damaged homes and businesses, blocked roads and widespread power outages, has left many members and communities facing a difficult recovery.
Disaster recovery can be overwhelming, whether members are cleaning up property damage, dealing with outages, navigating insurance claims, missing work, worrying about family, or simply processing what happened.
The IAM Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available 24 hours a day to provide confidential support for members and families dealing with stress, grief and loss, financial concerns, family issues, displacement, property damage or other disaster-related needs. District 142 members affected by the storms are encouraged to contact EAP Director Paul Shultz by mobile phone at (704) 907-3563, 24 hours a day or by email at pshultz@iamdl142.org.
The IAM Disaster Relief Fund is also available to assist IAM members and families who experience hardship due to natural disasters, including tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and other catastrophic events. Members who suffered significant damage or hardship from these storms are encouraged to learn more and determine whether they may qualify for assistance. Members in affected areas should continue to monitor local news, weather services, and emergency management alerts for updates on storm activity, road closures, shelters, power restoration, cleanup resources, and other available assistance.
The IAM is a union built on looking out for one another, especially when a Sister or Brother is facing a difficult time.
