Memorial Day 2022

POST ON ALL IAM BULLETIN BOARDS

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Memorial Day is the day we set aside every year to honor and remember those who have died in service to our country. Those women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice and secured and enabled the freedoms which we continue to enjoy as a nation.

Memorial Day has existed in some form in the U.S. since 1868. One hundred years later, in 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as always falling on the last Monday in May. The change officially went into effect in 1971, and Memorial Day became a federal holiday.

Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and memorials, laying wreaths and flowers, and paying tribute to the fallen. Others will participate in parades or enjoy barbecues and get-togethers with family and friends. Memorial Day is often seen as the unofficial start to summer.

All of us at IAM District 142 would like to remind you to take time to pause, and reflect, and remember our sisters and brothers who paid the highest price. Those who gave all. Those who didn’t come home. As always we remain

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
President-Directing General Chair
