Swissport Ramp & Fleet Workers at PHX Vote Overwhelmingly to Join the IAM

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

District 142 is proud to announce that Swissport Ramp and Fleet employees at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) have voted overwhelmingly to join the IAM.

The 168 Ramp and Fleet agents at PHX perform critical ground handling operations, including aircraft loading and unloading, pushback, and de-icing services for multiple airlines.

After an organizing campaign that began in early November, the election results spoke decisively: an impressive 97% of participating workers voted in favor of IAM representation.

“This was one of the best groups that I have ever worked with. They knew what they wanted and stood united to achieve it,” said District 142 Director of Organizing Jackson Hartsfield.

With this victory, the Ramp and Fleet group joins Swissport Fuelers at PHX and LAS in the growing ranks of IAM-represented Swissport workers.

“Swissport workers in PHX have sent a clear and powerful message: they are ready to secure the protections, benefits, and industry-leading contracts that come with IAM representation,” said District 142 President/Directing General Chair John M. Coveny, Jr. “We are proud to welcome these new members and look forward to working alongside them to negotiate a strong first agreement.”

District 142 will move quickly to assign a General Chair to this group and begin the important work of meeting with our newest members, understanding their priorities, and preparing for collective bargaining.

Welcome to the IAM family!

Sincerely and fraternally,

John M. Coveny, Jr.
